Modern Textus Receptus Best Representative –
VatCer 75 (1930-31).
Another good representative of Modern Textus Receptus is IES 77 (1934).
*
Minor Recensions:
EMIP 949 (e20th),
UNESCO 10.34 (1931), and EMML 7942 (20th, not a part of the sample) represent a minor recension, translated from the Latin Vulgate, with a 42% degree of difference from the rest of the tradition.
* The phrase “best representative of the Modern Textus Receptus” can refer to two different things. One the one hand there is the statistical best representative, which refers to the manuscript that most consistently carries the reading of the manuscripts in the Modern Textus Receptus cluster. One the other hand there is the sociological reality of the church in reference to the Modern Textus Receptus of the 20th Century. After its creation in 1934, the Haile Selassie Bible - known to us by its shelf mark IES 77 – this manuscript was, in practice, the received text of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. In non-academic parlance, the people referred to it as the Mehaber Hawaryat edition. We would acknowledge this as the sociological textus receptus for the 20th Century. With the publication of the New Ge`ez Bible it remains to be seen to what degree the church will adopt the New Ge`ez Bible over the Haile Selassie Bible.
